Liquid Metal
2022 / Video
It was presented as an NFT work on platforms such as Open Sea and Tatsumaki. The concept of this work is the fusion and coexistence of man- made and natural things. The experience of visiting a fishing village in northern Kyoto, Japan, where I happened to see the surface of the ocean waves looking like molten metal in the evening sun, inspired my imagination. Inspired by the works of various artists such as Silver dress from Ralph Lauren F/W2009, Quartered Meteor by Lynda Benglis 1969 and Porcelain bowl by Takuro Kuwata 2014, I wanted to express a sound world in which metal seems to come to life.
Since I was working on the premise of presenting my work on the NFT platform, the combination of the inorganic and the organic seemed new and unknown to me, and I felt that it was very appropriate. In creating the sound, I mainly used a synthesizer and combined it with piano and my own voice. In each case, I recorded a variety of sound textures reminiscent of molten metal and combined these materials in a series of prototypes in pursuit of new sound textures. After deciding on the texture materials to use, I wanted the piece to have a certain narrative quality, so I created it while imagining the metal as a living thing that changes its appearance from moment to moment. I aimed to create an unrealistic work on a large scale, in which the metal freely changes its shape and form, and the space itself gradually expands.
